Float Tube FAQ's

  1. Do you get cold?
  2. Do you get wet?
  3. How do you get around in the tube?
  4. Can you set up a Fish Finder on the tube?
  5. How much does it cost to start float tubing?
  6. Is if fun?

These are the most commonly asked questions when I am around a lake. We are always looking for additions to our FAQ send us your infomation with the contact form

Are You cold?

The answer is no, even at early ice off (that's when a lake thaws for us anglers up north), a pair of long johns or fleece pants will keep you warm along with a decent pair of neoprene waders.

Do you get wet ?

Again the answer is no. The neoprene or breathable waders we wear, prevent water from coming into contact with our bodies. The waders offer a thermal barrier between you and the cold water.

How do you make that thing move ?

Float tubes are powered by kicking your legs with a large set of fins or flippers (similar to what you would do when swimming). Pontoon boats can be rowed with oars and/or propelled by kicking.

Is that a fish finder ?

Absolutely. A gel pack 12V battery placed in one of the small pockets or in the backrest will give me 3 days of usage.

How much does it cost for a setup ?

That will depend on how much you want to spend but an average setup for all your equipment would be about $1,000 for a float tube with gear and about $1,600 for a nice river quality pontoon boat and all the gear. Don't be deterred by these prices though, as you can get started for about $500. Once you get hooked (and you will), you will want to purchase more and/or better equipment to make your tubing adventures more enjoyable and comfortable.

Is it fun ?

Float tube fishing is not only fun, its relaxing and an excellent form of exercise. Its very easy on your back and legs, and it feels completely natural. Just ask the little lady, I loose about 15 pounds over the summer fishing season.
