The Float Tube Team

Editor / Producer Mike (Doc) Monteith

Doc has been fishing Edmonton trout lakes for 27 years. He owns Edmonton Float Tube Adventures , a guiding service where he takes clients out to local Edmonton lakes and teaches them how to successfully fly-fish from a float tube. He is also the owner of the Fly Fishing Edmonton web site, an information site to help new tubers and new Edmontonians with information about our local lakes.

Doc is also well known for being the moderator of The Fishin' Alberta Message Board , the busiest forum in Alberta where anglers can post questions, comments and ideas about Alberta's fisheries.

Born in Chatham New Brunswick, Doc held his first fly rod at the age of four where he starting fishing for Atlantic Salmon on the famous Miramichi river with his father David who used to guide American anglers. After spending a few years in Winnipeg fishing trout lakes in the Duck Mountains, Doc moved to Edmonton at the age of ten and has been fishing our local lakes ever since.

Walleye Expert Jason Lafrance

I grew up in northern Alberta Canada, and was exposed to fishing by my father. At the age of 16 I was blessed with my own drivers license, and began to take fishing to a new level. For the last seven years I've spent over a hundred days on the water each year. I've fished a lot of what Alberta has to offer including some lakes that have taken days to quad into. About 5 years ago I started to take a more scientific approach to fishing, started to do my homework and find out why fish were where they were, and how I could catch them. I quickly discovered that there is no substitute for spending time on the water, but any outside information that you expose yourself to can only increase your chances of success.

Over the last couple of years I've also taken up fly-fishing, and have had a chance to fish allot of Alberta's premier trout rivers. Although I have so much to learn about fly-fishing, casting, and tying, I've recently found myself spending as many days on the river, as I do in my boat.
